About Louis RodriguesLouis Jerome Rodrigues was born on 20 July 1938 at Madras, India. Educated at the Universities of Madras, London (King's College), Cambridge (Trinity Hall) and Barcelona, he holds postgraduate degrees in English Language and Literature and a doctorate in Anglo-Saxon. He has been university lecturer, schoolteacher, civil servant, director of studies of private language schools in Mannheim and Barcelona, and director of Phoenix Educational Enterprises. A poet, lexicographer, and technical and literary translator from Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese and Galician, his work has appeared in literary and academic journals in the UK, USA, Canada, and Spain, and his published titles include two books of verse, eleven parallel-text verse translations from the Anglo-Saxon, and one from Catalan (awarded the Poetry Translation Prize of the Catholic University of Washington, published by CARCANET ), and a collection of critical prose articles on poetry and prose translation, autobiography, hagiography, dialectology and social history.. Jointly with his wife Josefina Bernet, he has written four bilingual Spanish-English glossaries for Harrap and a critical examination and translation into Spanish of seven short stories by 'Saki' (H H Munro).
